The lifeblood of any title insurance organization is precision, meeting deadlines and referrals. You need accuracy every step of the way, and it is no different when you look to protect your data. Effective August 28, 2017 the NY DFS has codified what professionals already knew was best practices behavior for managing sensitive information. From customer, to abstracter, to counsel, your stakeholders expect their data to be secure with you. You want a cyber security professional in your corner that values privacy and security, and has a thorough grasp of the threat landscape…one who can proactively thwart attacks and protect your most valuable asset, your reputation. Our cyber security experts wrap a blanket of protection around your company to assure that only legitimate actors have access to your data.
What exactly is mandated?
At minimum, your DFS program must include-
- Comprehensive and periodic risk assessments
- Written policies and procedures
- Review/limitation of access privileges
- Limitations on data retention
- Third party service provider policy
- Reporting compliance and cybersecurity events to DFS
Every single business overseen by the NYS DFS must comply with this basic part of the regulation. Essentially, the rules create two levels of compliance: Nonexempt or Limited Exemption. Limited Exempt companies need to comply with 7 out of 16 sections (the minimum) of the regulations. Nonexempt companies need to comply with all 16 sections of the regulation. Don’t be overwhelmed by this long list. You can count on Cyberguard360’s certified security experts to provide you with dependable, comprehensive, and economical security solutions.
